2012-2015. series of actions, performances

Actions in the Forest is a series of different artistic actions that form part of a single project with different techniques, aiming to offer a reflection on humankind’s relationship with nature through poetry, literature, and film.

Numerous environmental studies confirm that for many years humanity has been going too far in our mistreatment of nature. For some time now we have been suffering the consequences, from the Fukushima disaster to the overpopulation that drives us to keep building, leading to the destruction of forests and protected areas that is causing the genocide of thousands of tortured animals, in addition to being the second biggest cause of pollution in the world. We also suffer from the creation of technologies that quickly become obsolete, producing garbage that goes onto pollute developing countries and jeopardising the health of their inhabitants.

The combination of actions that comprise this project make reference to this relationship with nature. In the face of the impending doom of a dystopian future like the one described by Ray Bradbury, these actions constitute an attempt to reconcile humankind with the forest, in a small, local, and even absurd way. To make peace, to prepare the earth for our inevitable, imminent disappearance.

#1: Asking Forgiveness (2012)

#2: Family Secrets (2012)

Family Secrets is an attempt to step outside myself and my family life and take it all to the woods, based on my idea of reconciling myself with the forest in a local way. This video shows me burning old family snapshots and then storing the ashes in the woods, in the hollows of trees or in other hidden spots.

There is a Chinese tradition referred to in the Wong Kar-wai film In the Mood for Love, that when you have a secret that you can’t tell anyone, you can go to the forest and tell it to a tree through one of its hollows, which you then have to cover up with mud so that it will keep the secret.

#3: Reading the End of Fahrenheit 451 to the Forest (2012)

In this action, I walk around the forest reading the end of Ray Bradbury’s novel, when the protagonist, Montag, describes the Book People, intellectuals who have gone to live in the forest and have memorised the classics of world literature because all the books are being burned.

#4: Camping Until I Have Read Walden (2014)

Installation: traces of the action

In 2014, I camped out in the wilderness in the Tarragona region for a weekend, which was the time it took for me to read Thoreau’s book. Over those two days, I wrote down the quotes I liked most on the walls inside the tent, serving as the sole record of the action.

Cartel Acciones en el bosque #5: Bailar en los bosques (2015) 

Acciones en el bosque es una serie de acciones artísticas distintas que configuran una obra bajo el mismo marco aunque con diferentes técnicas y pretenden reflexionar sobre las relaciones del hombre con la naturaleza desde la poesía, la literatura y el cine.

Diversos estudios medioambientales aseguran que desde hace años la humanidad ha cruzado el límite de lo permisivo en nuestro trato con la naturaleza. Hace tiempo que sufrimos las consecuencias, ya sea la catástrofe de Fukushima, la superpoblación que hace que no paremos de construir arrasando bosque y zonas protegidas, o el genocidio diario que sufren miles de animales torturados, además de ser esta la segunda causa que más contamina a nivel mundial. También sufrimos la creación de tecnologías obsoletas al poco tiempo, que al desecharlas pasan a contaminar a los habitantes de países subdesarrollados y los enferma.
El conjunto de las acciones que conforman la obra hacen referencia a esta relación con la naturaleza e intentan ante un futuro distópico al que apuntaba Ray Bradbury, y no tan lejano, tratar de reconciliarse con el bosque, de una forma pequeña y local, incluso ridícula, mediante esta serie de acciones. Hacer las paces, preparar el terreno para nuestra inevitable y próxima deserción.
#1: Pedir perdón (2012)

#2: Secretos de familia (2012)

Secretos de familia es un intento de salir de mi misma y de mi ámbito familiar y llevarlo todo al bosque, siguiendo mi idea de reconciliarme con él de forma local. En él vemos como quemo fotos antiguas de mi familia para luego guardar las cenizas en el propio bosque, entre los agujeros de los árboles o en sitios recónditos.
Hay una tradición china que aparece en la película de Wong Kar Wai In the mood for love, en la que se nos cuenta que cuando tienes un secreto que no puedes decir a nadie puedes ir al bosque a contárselo a un árbol a través de alguno de sus agujeros y luego debes taparlo para que este guarde el secreto.

#3: Leerle al bosque el final de Fahrenheit 451 (2012)

Acción en la que me paseo por el bosque leyendo el final de la obra de Ray Bradbury, en la que Montag, el protagonista, descubre a los hombres libro, aquellos que se han ido a vivir al bosque y se han aprendido de memoria obras universales de la literatura porque todos los libros están siendo quemados.

#4: Acampar hasta haber leído Walden (2014)

En 2014 acampé en el campo, en la región de Tarragona, durante un fin de semana, el tiempo que tardé en leerme el libro de Thoreau. Durante esos dos días escribí las citas que más me gustaron en las paredes interiores de la tienda de campaña, como único registro de la acción.
#5: Bailar en los bosques (2015)
